Why Narva?
The old fortress and castle of Narva saw two dramatic episodes of the Great Northern War: in 1700 King Charles XII of Sweden defeated Russian troops there and in 1704 the stronghold was taken by storm by Tsar Peter’s soldiers.

The survived castle and bastions of the fortress present nice stage for living history and historical re-enactment. A borderline location of Narva makes it relatively easy to travel to, which is another positive factor for bringing re-enactors from the West and from the East together.

The Festival in Narva is destined to gather together those who are fond of history of late 17th – early 18th century, history of the Great Northern War. The festival is held annually since 2004 and is becoming more and more interesting to both participanst and to spectators.

In 2004 about 20 enthusiasts from Russia, Estonia and even Great Britain took part in the first festival. The 2005 event was marked with participation of historical societies from Sweden with overal number of participants being around 50. For the 2006 we expect even more partcipants including new groups from Russia, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

Invitation
All re-enactment and historical groups (and individual enthusiasts, of course) who deal with late 17th – early 18th century are cordially invited to take part in the festival. This joint event will help us to establish connections between units, to promote ‘our’ period and generally to have good time, spending couple days in the historical environment.

In brief, program proposed includes historical camp on a tiny bastion (with nothing modern inside of it and nothing modern visible outside it), drill sessions, living history displays, battle reenactment(s) and parade(s). Participants and guests are also welcome to propose their ideas about the programm of the events.

NB! In order to ensure high standards of re-creation, we emphasize that participant-reenactors attend in military or civilian impressions appropriate for the period of  late 17th -early 18th century.
